Fall 2017 Reading Series

It is your support and the support of our Bat City Community that allows us to help share such wonderful talent with the rest of the world. September Reading - Wally Workman gallery
The amazing band Invoke Sound! Currently they are the Young Professional String Quartet in Residence at the University of Texas at Austin. In 2016, the band received First Prize in the Savvy Musician in ACTION Chamber Competition
Annelyse Gelman, an MFA student in the Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas at Austin. Her book, Everyone I Love Is a Stranger to Someone, a finalist for the Believer Poetry Award.
Zain Saeed is an MFA student in the New Writer's Project at the University of Texas at Austin. He also serves as Editor-In-Chief for Bat City Review.
Jeff Boruszak received his BA from the University of Pennsylvania and his MA from The University of Texas at Austin, where he is currently pursuing his doctorate in the Department of English.
Yuki Tanaka is an MFA student at the Michener Center for Writers at University of Texas at Austin, where he also serves as poetry editor of Bat City Review.

October Reading - lewis carnegie gallery
Ally Glass-Katz, a fiction fellow at the Michener Center for Writers, currently she is working on her debut novel.
Our fantastic musical guest, the Chulita Vinyl Club, an all-women, all-vinyl club for self-identifying womxn of color to provide a space for empowerment.
Danny Ruiz is a poet who studies poetry at the Michener Center for Writer's at the University of Texas at Austin.
Rachel Heng is an author pursuing an MFA in fiction and screenwriting from the Michener Center for Writer's. Check out her debut novel, Suicide Club.
Jessica Hincapie, the web editor at Bat City Review and a poetry fellow at the New Writer's Project, and was the recent runner-up in Gulf Coast's 2017 Poetry Prize.
Julie Howd, she recieved an MFA from the University of Texas at Austin in creative writing. Currently she works as an intern for the Sundress Publications.

Sam Karas is a first-year poet and playwright in the Michener Center for Writers, and a participant in The Seminar for Younger Poets at Bucknell.
Travis Tate, an MFA candidate studying playwriting and screenwriting at the Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas at Austin.
August Huerta is currently a fellow at the New Writer’s Project at the University of Texas. He has a poem in the upcoming Raspas Magazine coming March 10th.
The poet and playwright Chessy Normile. She's received the Andrea K. Willison Poetry Prize in 2013.
The poet Dion James reading work from the Lilith Fund sponsored zine, proceeds of which all went to help the Lilith Foundation for women's health.
A graduate of Yale, Sarah Matthes was a Frederick Mortimer Clapp Poetry fellow in 2013, and is a current fellow at the Michener Center for Writers in Austin, TX.

Raye Hendrix is an MFA candidate at the University of Texas at Austin. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Cherry Tree, The Pinch, and Shenandoah, among others.
Nick Courtright is the Co-Executive Editor and book designer for Gold Wake Press, as well as the founder and Executive Editor of Atmosphere Press. He is the author of Let There Be Light.
Shangyang Fang studied civil engineering as an undergrad before pursuing an MFA as a poetry fellow at the Michener Center for Writers.
